Maria & John | Mitton Hall Wedding Teaser

Updated: May 17

There are weddings that feel beautifully put together… and then there are weddings that feel like a story unfolding in real time.

Maria and John Whiitle's Mitton Hall wedding was very much the latter, fitting given the entrance board welcomed guests with the line: “A Whittle Love Story.”

"We just wanted to say a hugh thank you for everything you did yesterday. You were both an absolute dream to work with from start to finish, so warm, so complimentary and full of amazing ideas that made us feel completely at ease"

Maria & John Whittle

A Sunny Start at Mitton Hall

I started the morning with bridal prep at Mitton Hall, where Maria had her make up artist, Kerry Baker, on hand throughout the day, not just for touch ups, but for drinks, support, and keeping everything running smoothly. The kind of presence that quietly elevates the whole experience.

Before heading inside, I took to the air. The morning light was perfect, soft, warm, and just enough to bring out the beauty of the river running behind the venue. There’s a narrow gap in the trees I like to fly through… it took a couple of attempts to get it just right (and avoid that branch), but it was worth it.

That same branch later featured a pair of very affectionate pigeons during canapés, unintentionally becoming part of the story.

Inside, I worked alongside photographer Jess to capture the finer details, the dress, the room, the atmosphere building. Meanwhile, Sarah had travelled about 15 miles in the opposite direction to film John getting ready at his dad’s house.

From what I heard, the morning there was equally well prepared, complete with an outdoor bar setup and whisky glasses presented to the groomsmen. A strong start.

Finishing Touches & The Journey to Church

Back at Mitton Hall, we captured Maria’s final moments of prep, the dress on, the anticipation building, followed by a lovely reveal to her dad and bridal party before heading to St James Church.

This church holds a bit of personal history for me, it’s where I filmed my first ever wedding. Back then, the camera was so large it barely left the tripod and felt more like a gym session than a filming job.

This time, thankfully, things were a little more refined.

The ceremony itself was full of character, not least thanks to the vicar, John, whose Welsh tone carried beautifully through the space. At one point I joked with him about the hymn, famously associated with English rugby, and he laughed, saying, “A pity it’s for the wrong side.”

Confetti, Cars & A Perfect Afternoon

After a spectacular confetti exit, we captured the couple’s departure on drone before heading back to Mitton Hall.

The weather held perfectly, sunshine through the day, with just a hint of rain later into the evening.

Back at the venue, guests enjoyed drinks on the terrace while the violinist, Isabella Baker, created a soft, elegant atmosphere, very Bridgerton in tone. We made the most of the light for couple shots, and also used a long lens to capture natural, unposed guest moments, often the most genuine parts of the day.

Speeches Done Right

Mitton Hall’s team served a fantastic three course meal before we moved into speeches, always one of the more challenging parts of the day to balance.

But Maria and John’s group got it exactly right.

Not too long, a great mix of humour, stories, and emotion, everything you want when shaping a wedding film.

A Confetti Moment to Remember

As the light began to fade, we had a couple of confetti cannons left unused, which felt like an opportunity.

With a few well positioned groomsmen hidden behind pillars, we set up a final shot in the doorway. The result was a perfectly timed burst of confetti raining down on Maria and John, and a genuinely surprised reaction that made the moment even better.

The enclosed space made the bang louder than expected… which only added to the expressions on their faces.

You’ll spot it at the end of the teaser.

Evening Celebrations

The evening rounded off with a brilliant live set from Rare Sugar Collective, followed by pizza from Dough Boy, a strong way to end a full day of celebration.

If every wedding tells a story, this one did it with personality, warmth, and just the right amount of surprise.

A proper Whittle love story.
