Filming Tips and Favourite Locations at Bashall Barn

Bashall Barn is one of the Ribble Valley’s most photogenic venues, with thoughtful design and stunning surroundings that work beautifully on film. One of the standout features is how the venue is positioned to make the most of natural light. The large windows at the back of the ceremony space allow soft, flattering light to fill the room throughout the day, creating a bright, natural look that works perfectly for cinematic footage. As the evening approaches, those same windows frame the sunset beautifully, adding a warm atmosphere to the later parts of the day.

The balcony offers incredible views across the Ribble Valley and is a great spot for group shots, as well as a perfect location for a dramatic aerial moment that really shows off the surrounding landscape. During the summer months, there is also the option of an outdoor ceremony if the weather allows, which creates a relaxed countryside feel with stunning natural light and uninterrupted views.

Around the venue, there are lots of smaller areas and details that work well for relaxed couple footage. There’s plenty of variety close by, so you can step away briefly for a few quiet moments together without being away from your guests for long. The lane leading up to the venue is another favourite spot, offering a fantastic opportunity for an unusual confetti moment with a beautiful countryside backdrop that looks incredible on film.

The surrounding fields are often full of sheep and lambs, which adds to the authentic Ribble Valley atmosphere. Whenever possible, we like to capture the natural sounds of the countryside, as these little details help bring your film to life and make it feel true to the setting.

Inside, the reception space has been cleverly designed with sliding walls that allow for a dramatic room reveal and evening entrance. Once the celebrations begin, the warm lighting throughout the space creates a lovely atmosphere that translates beautifully on camera. One of the first things you notice when you arrive is the impressive wood-fired pizza oven. As someone who enjoys cooking (and spends time practising with an Ooni), it’s hard not to feel a little jealous, but it’s also a brilliant way to keep guests well fed and happy as the evening gets underway.
